Role of Unions Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Role of Unions - Research Paper Example ition, the unionsââ¬â¢ role in shielding workers from increased inflation, growing unemployment and in influencing government policies in issues as health and other social factors is necessary (Serrano, 2011). Every organization has a HRM department that is mandated with the duty of hiring and looking at the welfare of the policies. In executing this role, the department influences the relationship between the employees and the organization. The department therefore has a role of achieving a cordial relationship between the organization and the employees by designing fair compensation, ensuring better working conditions, having better bargain, adhering to the labor laws and involving the employeesââ¬â¢ emissaries in the formulation and implementation of organizations polices (Serrano, 2011). Through these, the employeesââ¬â¢ relationship will be enhanced and their loyalty to the origination will be improved. Besides, the government also plays a significant role in ensuring workers plight are upheld. The government has a role of setting fair wage rates by altering minimum wage and in promulgating laws that protect the rights of the workers. The role will include that of penalizing organizations that breach the set regulations (Serrano, 2011). Simultaneously, the government should take interventionary measures between organizations and their workers in resolving labor disputes. In conclusion, the HRM department, government and the workers representatives must all play their roles in ensuring smooth relationship in the work force. Failure by any party to perform their tasks may result into labor disputes that will impair the functioning of the general

Assessing The Paris Fashionable Concepts Cultural Studies Essay
Assessing The Paris Fashionable Concepts Cultural Studies Essay The concept of Paris fashion represents one of the most powerful and long-running place in modern history. But even a cursory examination of the way the term has been used draws attention to the complexity of the notion of the fashion capital, and to the complexity of the fashion process itself. The routine description of the city over the past 200 years as the capital world of fashion contribute to this understanding. ::::Downloads:eiffel-tower-1.jpg Figure 2.2 , Eifel Tower in Paris, Available at: http://www.eiffel-tower.us/Eiffel-Tower-Images/eiffel-tower-1.jpg Paris is the Fashion Capital of the World. Paris has long been an international hub of fashion design. Paris is home to many distinguished design houses, such as Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Chloe, Givenchy, Lanvin, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton. Paris is also a premier destination for shopping, with streets such as Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honre and the Champs-Elysees hosting boutiques from designers around the world. Besides fashion and leather goods, Paris is has a number of well-known jewelers, such as Cartier SA, Boucheron, Chaumet, and Van Cleef Arpels. They have their flagships at the famed Place Vendome. Twice a year, Paris is home to a fashion week, where the citys fashion houses present their collections. Designers from other countries also present their collections in Paris. Notable examples include Belgian designers Dries van Noten, Martin Margeila, and Ann Demeulemester; Dutch design duo Viktor Rolf; and Japanese deisgners Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and Junya Watanabe. Pinault-Printemps-Redoute and LVMH, the two major holding companies in contemporary fashion, are both headquartered in Paris. Paris has been interpreted as a world centre of fashion because of its distinctive metropolitan cultures of consumption, both in the narrow sense of shops and shopping, and in a broader sense of the practices associated with the wearing of fashionable dress in the spaces of the city. There has been something approaching a naturalization of Pariss relationship with fashion, often around the elevation of a certain construction of fashionable femininity to a symbol of Parisian superiority. [Fashions World Cities, David Gilbert, 2006] ::::Downloads:christian_dior_haute_couture_2009_01.jpg Figure 2.3 , Christian Dior Haute Couture fashion show 2009, Available at: http://iamfashioncrazy.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/christian_dior_haute_couture_2009_01.jpg Since the seventeenth century, fashion has been an important industry and cultural export of France, and modern haute couture originated in Paris in the 1860s. Today, Paris is considered one of the worlds fashion capitals, along with London, Milan, and New York City, and the city is home or headquarters to many of the premier fashion houses. The culture of Paris and of the French people has been shaped by geography, by profound historical events, and by foreign and internal forces and groups. Paris, has played an important part as a center of high culture and of decorative arts since the seventeenth century, first in Europe, and from the nineteenth century onwards, world wide. From the late nineteenth century, Paris has also played an important role in modern art, cinema, fashion and cuisine. Paris is today the melting pot of diverse cultures. However, it still retains its own unique charm or attraction when it comes to ethnicity, geography and the French language. The once isolated local customs arising out of regional differences have matured to become a cultural identity that is unique to the heterogeneity. The culture of Paris (or to say France), has been largely influenced by mandatory defense service, the Franco-Prussian feud and World War I and World War II. The two world wars were responsible for the flood of cultural influences and centralized market forces. Today, the people in Paris symbolize collective identity. The Parisian society is more inclined to believing in public-spiritedness, state socialistic spending, and in public initiatives. The Paris culture is characteristic of chauvinism, a term which is widely used all over the World (the countries of the West, esp. Europe and the Americas), integrated politics, universalism and the popular French grandeur. Although, now the traditional family structure has evolved from the joint family to nuclear. Most modern people in Paris prefer to relate to the term French as a nationality and their language and not a measure of ethnicity, specific to the city. There are many immigrants from Africa, Asia and other European countries who have made Paris or France their home with diverse ethnic ascendants, resulting in interracial relationships. According to Hofsteds Framework for Assessing Culture, the culture of Paris is moderately individualistic and high Power Distance Index. There is clearly a significant overlap between the cities routinely described as world fashion cities, like Paris, and those identified by Friedmann, Sassen and their followers as primary world cities or global cities. Given, in Friedmanns terminology, the embeddedness of a transnational capitalist class whose ideology is consumerist in such world cities, and given fashions inherent elitism and consumerism, it would be very surprising if this were not the case. [Fashions World Cities, David Gilbert, 2006] The acceptance of lebianism, homosexuality and gay marriages in Paris, speaks volumes for the broad-mindedness of the French. In fact, Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoà «, makes no attempt to hide his gay identity. In Paris, the French movies, music and literature are vibrant and multicultural. The language follows a preordain official originality standard. French is spoken widely across the globe, inspite of the repression with regional and foreign languages in certain countries. It has become a part of the education forum and a popular option in many bilingual educational institutions. As far as religion goes, Paris is secular and dedicatedly adheres to the principle of freedom of religion, a political dictate that was enshrined in the Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789. A mix of Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Jews and atheists live in Paris and add quality to the essence of French character. So therefore, Paris is a multicultural society. In the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries these cities have developed intense concentrations of advanced producer services, typically in sectors such as banking, accountancy, advertising, insurance, commercial law and management consultancy. Sassen argues that financial deregulation and the development of new forms of telecommunications, media and information technology, far from dispersing economic activities as some predicted, has created an aggressive new logic for their concentration of these activities as some predicted, has created an aggressive new logic for their concentration of these activities in a few great cities. Sassen further argues that increasing economic and social polarization has marked global cities, particularly London and New York. Alongside the development of advanced producer services has been a parallel development of a low-paid service sector, often characterized by a casualized labour force with a high proportion of immigrants. [Fashions Worl d Cities, David Gilbert, 2006] London: ::::Downloads:Somerset House Strand.JPG Figure 3.1 , Somerset House in London, Available at: http://www.the-magician.co.uk/images/Somerset%20House%20Strand.JPG London as one of the worlds four fashion capitals, the London Fashion Week is one of the Big Four fashion weeks, which is organised by the British Fashion Council. The current venue for most of the events is Somerset House in central London, where a large marquee in the central courtyard hosts a series of catwalk shows by top designers and fashion houses, while an exhibition, housed within Somerset House itself, showcases over 150 designers. British designers whose collections have been showcased at the fashion week include Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, while British models who have featured at the event include Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jade Jagger and Jodie Kidd. Fashion designer Mary Quant was at the heart of the Swinging London scene of the 1960s, and her work culminated in the creation of the miniskirt and hot pants. Mary Quant named the miniskirt that she designed after her favourite make of car, the Mini. The English fashion designer Charles Frede rick Worth is widely considered the father of Haute couture. According to an article in the Time, yet behind this confection of a city peopled by the famous and beautiful, all dressed in the latest cutting-edge fashions, was a sense that the new London was a key site in much broader changes taking place across the Western world: increasing consumer affluence, particularly among teenagers and young adults, changing intergenerational relationships, and new attitudes towards popular culture, leisure and the body. [Fashions World Cities, David Gilbert, 2006] ::::Downloads:London_cultural_icons.jpg Figure 3.2 , Cultural icons of London, Available at: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/London_cultural_icons.jpg The London culture concerns the arts, music, museums, festivals and other entertainment in London, the capital city of the United Kingdom. The city is renowned for its theatre district, and its West End theatre district has given the name to West End theatre, the strand of mainstream professional theatre staged in the large theatres in London. London also homes to notable cultural attractions such as the British Museum, the Tate Galleries, the National Gallery, the Notting Hill Carnival and The O2. An assortment of landmarks and objects are cultural icons associated with London, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the tube map. According to visiting tourists, there are a few other British cultural icons that are strongly associated with London , including the red telephone box, the routemaster bus, the black taxi or more famously known as the London cab and the Union Flag. ::::Downloads:RoyalOperaHouse-25-02-09w.jpg Figure 3.3 , The Floral Hall of the Royal Opera House in London, Available at: http://www.strollon.co.uk/UploadedDocuments/RoyalOperaHouse-25-02-09w.jpg London has the famous, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia. There are also quite a few chamber orchestras, some of which specialise in period instrument performances, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. The city is home to more than 300 nationalities, and the diversity of cultures has shaped the citys culture over time. In London, rank, status and inequalities between people are reasonably low. This obviously shows in a number of ways, such as legislation protecting ethnic minorities rights. This is observed in the office where the relationship between superiors and subordinates is relatively casual and incorporates little ceremony. London scores really high for Individualism. Therefore points to that fact that the British cultural values promote individuality. In London, the nuclear family is the more predominant form of basic social structure. In the business environment, the individual is more concerned with themselves rather than the team. The level of power distance (uncertainty avoidance) in London is quite low. This means that the British culture is relatively open to taking risks and dealing with change, which can be seen in the constant revision of laws and government structures. In the workplace, conflict or disagreement, even with superiors, is considered healthy. ::::Downloads:the_sex-pistols.jpg Figure 3.4 , The Sex Pistols, Available at: http://www.sexpistolsanniversary.co.uk/images/the_sex-pistols.jpg London is really famous for its rock scene, and was the starting point of some of the greatest 60s and 70s band such as Iron Maiden, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, The Sex Pistols, The Who, Pink Floyd, Queen and very popular 90s bands like Blur, Coldplay, Radiohead, and Oasis that are still very popular to this day. Most of the major bands tours pass through London as well, favourite venues being the Brixton Academy, the London Astoria, and the Hammersmith Apollo. In addition to generating of the bands mentioned above, London, in its capacity as the UKs cultural centre, has served as the base of a number of internationally important acts, including David Bowie, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, as well as being instrumental in the birth of dance music. All these artists mentioned above, in their days and till date influence fashion in London and all over the world. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¨London has a thriving urban scene, mainly throughout the 21st century. Soul singers like Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Lemar have found themselves chart, and international success. RB singers such as Leona Lewis, Jay Sean, The Sugababes, Taio Cruz and Alexandra Burke are also extremely popular. London also has a strong rap scene, which includes rappers like Wiley, Tinchy Stryder and Dizee Rascal among others have helped contribute to London gaining the status of having the strongest rap scene outside of the USA. London has one of the biggest underground scenes in the world. Genres include Drum and bass, Uk garage, Dubstep, 2step and grime. Londons ethnic population is growing strongly and this is having a huge effect on the culture. Indian food is now a significant part of Londons cuisine. Young black Londoners play a predominant part in the British music industry. Besides Afro-Caribbean and Indian culture, Bangladeshi, Polish and Middle-Eastern influences are also present. In London, masculinity is somewhere in the middle. This may reflect the fact that British society and culture aims for equality between the sexes, yet a certain amount of gender bias still exists underneath the surface. The acceptance of lebianism, homosexuality and gay marriages in London, is cause of the all the stars who used to cross-dress for their performances, shows that people in London are broad-minded. There are many other culture related attractions in London, including the Avenue of Stars, a walkway similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with stars commemorating notable individuals or groups. Summary Table: Paris London Similarities Both Paris and London are the fashion capitals of their countries. The melting pot of diverse cultures is existent in both cities. Paris and London are multicultural societies. The acceptance of lesbianism, homosexuality and gay marriages in Paris and London, shows how broad-minded the people or society is. Loyalty to Family in Barn Burning by William Faulkner Essay example --
Loyalty to Family in Barn Burning by William Faulkner The short story "Barn Burning" by William Faulkner is a stark look at the struggle of a boy to try to do what is right, or do what is best for his family during the post Civil War era. The main character, Sartoris Snopes is a poor son of a migrant tenant farmer who, in the opening scene is being questioned about the burning of a farmers barn by his father, Abner Snopes. The boy is torn between choosing what is right, telling the truth, or lying to protect his father. The boy is not forced to tell to judge about his father burning the barn, but is certain he would have told if asked. The father is a soldier from the Civil War and has a knack for burning down the barns of those who cross his path. Faulkner uses the symbol of blood to illustrate the theme of loyalty to the family. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Faulkner illustrates the theme of blood when he is to testify, and is pressured by his father to lie. In the makeshift courtroom, when the boy is put on the stand he is pressured because he knows that his father will do something rash if his son tells the truth. He also is told that some things are more important than the truth, that family is the most important thing. When Abner states, "You would have told them." This shows how the boy feels toward his blood father, and how even though it would have been a lie he should have testified in his fathers favor. This scene also reveals how the father feels about family. The father belie...

Popcorn Lab Report
Biology 101 Popcorn experiment Lab partners Robert Barham Michelle hall Diva Mancada Kelley Pritt 1 Introduction Popcorn, or popping corn, is a type of corn which explodes from a kernel and puffs up when heated. It is a popular snack food, especially in movie theaters. Popcorn can be salted or sweetened. Air popped popcorn is naturally high in fiber, low in calories and fat, contains no sodium and is sugar free. This can make it an attractive snack for people with caloric or dietary restrictions. Large amounts of fat, sugar and sodium are often added to prepared popcorn tat can convert it into a high calorie snack. hypothesis Orvill Redenbacher has larger popped kernels and less un-popped kernels than Act II. 3 Material Method Two brand name popcorn packages are being tested. Act II and Orvill Redenbacher. Both are tested in the same microwave. The same time is being used (2. 5 Minutes). Both packages were weighed before and after the popping procedure, the results were recorded. Tot al cooking time was measured and recorded for both popcorn packages. 10 randomly selected popped kernels from each package were measured with a ruler and results were recorded. Average size for both were calculated and recorded. All un-popped kernels ere collected from each package and weighed in a dish. The weight of the dish was subtracted from the total weight to find the weight of un-popped kernels from each brand. The percentage was calculated and compared. 4 Results Weight before cooking Orvill Redenbacher ââ¬â 104. 77g Act II ââ¬â 97. 9g *Act II package is smaller tan Orvill Redenbacher by 6. 84g. Table 1 *Microwave timer was set for 2. 5 minutes ? *Table 1 shows that Orvill Redenbacher has a faster cooking time than Act II. Weight after cooking Act II 87. 6g O. R. 93. 85g *Act II package is smaller than Orvill Redenbacher by 6. 79g Table 2 ? (Calculations) 3. 14g/87. 06 x 100 = 3. 6% and 3. 42g/93. 85g x 100 = 3. 6% *The Results showed that the percentage of un-poppe d kernels in both packages was the same. Table 3 (Popped kernels in mm) ? Table 3 showed that the average size of popped kernels of Orvill Redenbacher was larger than Act II. 5 Discussion The results showed that Orvill Redenbacher brand had faster cooking time than Act II and weighed more overall. The experiment also showed that both brands had the same percentage of un-popped kernels. Since Orville Redenbacher weighed more than Act II we were able to determine that Orville Redenbacher had more un-popped kernels by weight The experiment also showed that the size of the popped kernels was larger in the Orville Redenbacher brand. 6 Conclusion The hypothesis was partially supported by the data. Orville Redenbacer brand has larger popped kernels than Act II. The percentage of un-popped kernels in both brands was the same but, the weight of the un-popped kernels in the Orville Redenbacher brand was more due to the higher un-popped weight of the package.

Catcher in the Rye Essay
Is Holden Caufield, out of the novel catcher in the rye written by J. D. Salinger insane in a sane world or sane in an insane world? But really what defines sane and insane this is what will be brought to attention through out this essay. According to the dictionary definition insane is some one of a not sound mind, mentally damaged or deranged or utterly senseless. Other definitions state that insanity craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviour characterised by certain abnormal mental or behavioural patterns. Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to them selves or others. Where as sanity is defined as free from mental damage derangement, having a sound and healthy mind mind, having or showing reason, sound judgment or good sense. But in my opinion insanity is just some one out side of the norm in societyââ¬â¢s narrow minded views. Some one who is differentiating in there points of view from what has be come the strait and normal. Society has drawn these box out lines of what is sane and in sane especially in the era that Holden grew up in. Holden is a basic young boy who differentiates from the norm a little in his characteristics, he is a little bit more head strong and aware of the realities of the world and portrayed society. Though he is generally of a rational sane mind at the beginning of the book there are a few occasions where the cracks start to show and you can catch glimpses of his ââ¬Å"insanityâ⬠can be seen such as when Stradlater takes Jane out one night on a date and Holden states that though he has a few blank patches of memory he can remember being by the window staring out at nothing consumed in worry and dark thoughts, when Stradlater returns that night Holden shows uncharacteristic anger and rage that he can not contain resulting in him hitting Stradlater in the side of the head and when Stradlater holds him down Holden screams vulgar profanities at him in a fit of rage.

Roy Cohn, Lawyer Whose Attacks Made Him Famous, Feared
Roy Cohn, Lawyer Whose Attacks Made Him Famous, Feared Roy Cohn was a highly controversial attorney who became nationally famous while in his twenties, when he became a prominent aide of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Cohns highly publicized pursuit of suspected communists was marked by bravado and recklessnessà and he was widely criticized for unethical behavior. His stint working for McCarthys Senate committee in the early 1950s ended disastrously within 18 months, yet Cohn would remain a public figure as a lawyer in New York City until his death in 1986. As a litigator, Cohn reveled in his reputation for being extraordinarily belligerent. He represented a host of notorious clients, and his own ethical transgressions would result in his own eventual disbarment. Apart from his widely publicizedà legal battles, he made himself a fixture of gossip columns. He often appeared at society events and even becoming a regular patron at the classic 1970s celebrity hangout, the disco Studio 54. Rumors about Cohns sexuality circulated for years, and he always denied he was gay. When he became seriously ill in the 1980s, he denied having AIDS. His influence in American life persists. One of his most prominent clients, Donald Trump, is credited with adopting Cohns strategic advice to never admit a mistake, always staying on the attack, and always claiming victory in the press. Early Life Roy Marcus Cohn was born February 20, 1927, in the Bronx, New York. His father was a judge and his mother was a member of a wealthy and powerful family. As a child, Cohn exhibited unusual intelligence and he attended prestigious private schools. Cohn met a number of politically powerful people growing up, and he became obsessed with how deals were struck in New York City courthouses and law firm offices. According to one account, while still a high school student he helped a family friend obtain an FCC license to operate a radio station by arranging a kickback to an FCC official. He was also said to have fixed parking tickets for one of his high school teachers. After sailing through high school, Cohn managed to avoid being drafted at the end of World War II. He entered Columbia University, finishing early, and managed to graduate from Columbias law school at the age of 19. He had to wait until he turned 21 to become a member of the bar. As a young lawyer, Cohn worked as an assistant district attorney. He crafted a reputation as an investigator by exaggerating cases he worked on to obtain glowing press coverage. In 1951 he served on the team that prosecuted the Rosenberg spy case, and he later claimed to have influenced the judge to impose the death penalty on the convicted couple. Early Fame After gaining some fame through his connection to the Rosenberg case, Cohn began to work as an investigator for the federal government. Fixated on discovering subversives in America, Cohn, while working at the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. in 1952, tried to prosecute a professor at Johns Hopkins University, Owen Lattimore. Cohn alleged Lattimore had lied to investigators about having communist sympathies. At the beginning of 1953, Cohn got his big break. Senator Joseph McCarthy, who was at the height of his own search for communists in Washington, hired Cohn as chief counsel of the Senates Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. As McCarthy continued his anti-communist crusade, Cohn was at his side, taunting and threatening witnesses. But Cohns personal obsession with a friend, wealthy Harvard graduate G. David Schine, soon created its own enormous controversy. When he joined McCarthys committee, Cohn brought along Schine, hiring him as an investigator. The two young men visited Europe together, ostensibly on official business to investigate potential subversive activities in American institutions overseas. When Schine was called up to active duty in the U.S. Army, Cohn began trying to pull strings to get him out of his military obligations. The tactics he learned in a Bronx courthouse did not play wellà in Washingtons corridors of power, and a gigantic confrontation erupted between McCarthys committee and the Army. The Army hired a Boston attorney, Joseph Welch, to defend it against attacks by McCarthy. In televised hearings, after a series of unethical insinuations by McCarthy, Welch delivered a rebuke which became legendary: Have you no sense of decency? The Army-McCarthy hearings exposed McCarthys recklessnessà and hastened the end of his career. Roy Cohns career in federal service was also ended amidst rumors about his relationship with David Schine. (Schine and Cohn were apparently not lovers, though Cohn seemed to have an obsessive admiration for Schine). Cohn returned to New York and began a private law practice. Decades of Controversy Becoming known as a ferocious litigator, Cohn enjoyed success not so much for brilliant legal strategy but for his ability to threaten and bully opponents. His opponents would often settle cases rather than risk the onslaught they knew Cohn would unleash. He represented wealthy people in divorce cases and mobsters being targeted by the federal government. During his legal career he was often criticized for ethical transgressions. All the while he would call gossip columnists and seek publicity for himself. He moved in society circles in New York, as rumors about his sexuality swirled. In 1973 he met Donald Trump at a Manhattan private club. At the time, the business run by Trumps father was being sued by the federal government for housing discrimination. Cohn was hired by the Trumps to fight the case, and he did so with his usual fireworks. Cohn called a press conference to announce that the Trumps would be suing the federal government for defamation. The lawsuit was merely a threat, but it set the tone for Cohns defense. Trumps company skirmished with the government before finally settling the lawsuit. The Trumps agreed to government terms which ensured they couldnt discriminate against minority tenants. But they were able to avoid admitting guilt. Decades later, Trump skirted questions about the case by proudly asserting that he had never admitted guilt. Cohns strategy of always counter-attacking and then, no matter the outcome, claiming victory in the press, made an impression on his client. According to an article in the New York Times on June, 20, 2016, during the presidential campaign, Trump absorbed important lessons:à Decades later, Mr. Cohnââ¬â¢s influence on Mr. Trump is unmistakable. Mr. Trumpââ¬â¢s wrecking ball of a presidential bid - the gleeful smearing of his opponents, the embracing of bluster as brand - has been a Roy Cohn number on a grand scale. Final Decline Cohn was prosecuted several times, and according to his obituary in the New York Times, he was acquitted three times in federal court on various charges including bribery, conspiracy, and fraud. Cohn always maintained he was the victim of vendettas by enemies ranging from Robert F. Kennedy to Robert Morgenthau, who served as Manhattans district attorney. His own legal problems did little to harm his own law practice. He represented celebrities and famous institutions, ranging from Mafia bosses Carmine Galante and Anthony Fat Tony Salerno to the Catholic Archdiocese of New York. At his 1983 birthday party, the New York Times reported attendees included Andy Warhol, Calvin Klein, former New York mayor Abraham Beame, and conservative activist Richard Viguerie. At social functions, Cohn would mingle with friends and acquaintances including Normal Mailer, Rupert Murdoch, William F. Buckley, Barbara Walters, and a variety of political figures. Cohn was active in conservative political circles. And it was through his association with Cohn that Donald Trump, during Ronald Reagans 1980 presidential campaign,à met Roger Stone and Paul Manafort, who later became political advisers to Trump as he ran for president. In the 1980s, Cohn was accused of defrauding clients by the New York State Bar. He was disbarred in June 1986.à By the time of his disbarment, Cohn was dying of AIDS, which at the time was considered a gay disease. He denied the diagnosis, claiming in newspaper interviews that he was suffering from liver cancer. He died at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where he was being treated, on August 2, 1986. His obituary in the New York Times noted that his death certificate indicated that he had indeed died of AIDS related complications.
